I'd be afraid of an Apple reader. They are notoriously closed and proprietary with their items. I'd almost worry about them censoring my reading list, or requiring approval for a book to be in their store. The Nook is probably a good buy. There's a very good chance B&N; will open it for developers in the future since it's an Android device. 4 months, 4 weeks ago

I think B&N; opening up the Nook to developers is a very long shot. They want to sell books, not support a computing platform (with all the added effort and expense that entails).
If Apple develops anything in the tablet/touchscreen product area (and it's all just wild speculation at this point), it will likely be a multipurpose device rather than just an e-reader. As such it will be at least three times the price of a Nook or Kindle.
Finally, Phil Schiller of Apple has said they will not be releasing any further products this year, so you're safe for a couple of months for sure.

I don't think Apple would come out with an eBook reader that is not the iPhone (or a rumored tablet). They are done with single-use devices. 3 months ago
